The Europe Hotel Booking Engine Case Study

The Europe Hotel & Resort is a luxury hotel with the most exquisite views of Lough Leane in Killarney, the Southwest of Ireland. The hotel offers luxurious services and elegant accommodations overlooking the lake or the golf course.

The property is part of the Killarney Hotel Group collection which is owned by Liebherr, one of German’s leading management companies that operates six first-class hotels, three of these located in Ireland, two in Austria, and one in Germany. The Europe Hotel & Resort became the first hotel of the Liebherr Group in Ireland back in 1960.

The Challenge

The Europe Hotel & Resort has been using Oracle OPERA PMS for many years. Before being introduced to P3, Killarney Hotels had developed their own custom-built booking engine for each of their properties using the Opera Web Services platform.

As a hotel group, they could already see the benefits of Opera Web Services and had asked a German web agency to build their booking engine using OWS. However, this company did not have experience in building eCommerce engines for the hospitality industry and nor did they have expertise around Opera, which resulted in a poor implementation between the systems.

Because of the poor implementation, the conversion rate for The Europe Hotel & Resort was minimal, the direct booking values were extremely low and the hotel had to rely on bookings being delivered via third-party channels. This was a real shame as the hotel had a very strong and well-known brand throughout Ireland.

The Solution

The Europe Hotel & Resort have always had a solid and well-known brand throughout Ireland with the potential to strengthen their direct channel and online performance.

For this reason, the hotel's teams realised they needed a booking engine partner that could complement them in their relationship with Oracle Hospitality, expand the OPERA product, understand hotel eCommerce, create an integrated guest journey, and provide good technical and user support. 

Since the kick-off meeting with The Europe Hotel, P3 understood that they needed a superior booking engine fully branded to their brand identity and that could reflect their luxury hotel experience. 

Using our expertise in UX/UI and our knowledge in OWS, P3 was able to build a fully customised booking engine to reflect the brand identity and luxury experience of The Europe Hotel & Resort, which consequently provided an engaging experience for their guests.

400% Increase in Conversion Rate

The results were immediate in terms of conversion rate improvement. Over the next few years, P3 and the Sales & Marketing team at The Europe Hotel worked together to help grow their website visitors and conversion rate numbers.

In 2020 they made the decision to stop selling on third-party channels altogether and now they only take bookings via their direct brand website, and this is only made possible by having a superior brand booking engine tightly integrated with Oracle OPERA.

Over 7 years, from 2013 to 2020, the results were:
